Hebden Bridge, well known as the Pennine Centre, is a fascinating and vibrant place in which to settle. Its character is defined by the sweeping hills and open countryside around yet the town owes its existence to people turning their backs on the land, moving into factories and housing clustered around the smoke stacks and mills that blackened the stone from which the town was built.

Taking its name from the packhorse bridge over Hebden Water, the town remained a tiny settlement at the junction of packhorse routes that linked the local villages and towns.

It was not until the Industrial Revolution that the town came into being in a form we recognise today with houses clinging to the steep hillsides overlooking the canal, railway and main road that provide vital transport links to the wider world.

Hebden Bridge enjoys a national reputation as a liberal, artistic and creative community with a cosmopolitan atmosphere more akin to larger towns.

The individualism of the town and its people is reflected in the nature of the town centre. Quality bakers, greengrocers and wine merchants sit alongside fashion clothing and antique shops. Trendy wine bars nestle with traditional adding to the eclectic mix.

Hebden Bridge is a self-contained focus for young and old alike and very well served by local amenities. These include the Little Theatre, Picture House Cinema, galleries, markets, children's nurseries and a highly regarded choice of schools, including Calder High, one of the country's top comprehensive beacon schools.

Numerous attractions and events throughout the year include a classic car rally, boating festival, sculpture trail, the Pace Egg plays, an annual duck race, the World Dock Pudding Championships and the Riverside Festival.

Mango Homes is proud to have sponsored the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival (which is held each summer) and the local Sculpture Trail . We have also provided space for artists to display their work.
